What's Good in Niagara? Healthcare experts want you to stay illness-free this fall/winter

As we transition into fall and out of summer, more and more people around Niagara may start noticing the sniffles, or even a cough.

The season that healthcare experts call 'respitory season' is among us as temperature drop and large gatherings are on the horizon at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Medical Director of Infection Prevention Dr. Karim Ali says while it's suggested you not go to work sick, there are ways to prevent spreading illness if you have to work.

Dr. Ali says with viruses like the flu, RSV and even COVID-19 spreading during the colder months, the stresses on the healthcare system can add up.

Dr. Ali says you should always seek advice from your family doctor or a walk-in clinic before using the services of the emergency department to avoid overload on the health system.
