For Darlene Check, the Terry Fox Run is about much more than raising money for cancer research - it's personal.
Check is a breast cancer survivor who discovered she had stage-two breast cancer after a fall in Niagara led doctors to find a lump.
After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, she became involved with the Terry Fox Foundation and formed the Giant Knockers team last year, raising more than $16,000 for cancer research.
This year, Check has been named the run captain for the St. Catharines Terry Fox Run, and she's setting a goal of raising another $8,000.
She says the support she's received from coworkers, listeners, friends and families affected by cancer has been overwhelming - and has helped her throughout her own recovery.
The St. Catharines Terry Fox Run takes place Sunday, September 20th at Lakeside Park, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the event getting underway at 10.
People can register on the day, join the Giant Knockers team, start their own team or make a donation through Giant FM.
