A little friendly competition is heating up in Niagara, and it could mean some great eats for local residents while helping support a good cause.
United Way Golden Horseshoe has launched its Ultimate Burger Battle, bringing together five restaurants from across Niagara to compete for bragging rights and the title of having the region's ultimate burger.
Vice President of Marketing and Communications Kristen Jacob says the idea originally started with United Way in Thunder Bay back in 2019 and has since expanded to about 10 United Way organizations across the country.
With five local restaurants taking part this year, there's plenty of competition in the kitchen. Some restaurants even held internal contests among their chefs to determine which burger would represent them.
Jacob says the fundraising component is particularly important, with at least $2 from every burger sold will support in the community.
