The city of Welland is taking part in the 2026 Kraft Hockeyville campaign.
Kraft Hockeyville is a national competition that highlights the vital role local arenas play in bringing communities together.
Amanda Degazio, Manager of Business and Community Services says everyone has a story.
The winning community receives $250,000 in arena upgrades and the chance to host an NHL pre-season game.
Amanda explains that hosting a game would highlight a sense of growth.
If Welland is chosen as the grand prize winner, the funding would go toward key improvements at its arena, including the purchase of an electric ice resurfacer, new information screens, and upgraded changeroom locking systems. City officials say the upgrades would provide long-term value and could be transferred to a future arena.
The arena has a storied history and goes back a long time.
The campaign reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to investing in sport and recreation facilities that serve residents of all ages and abilities.
