Allan Jackson's influence on the wine industry both across Canada and in Niagara will be remembered for years to come.
Jackson, one of the co-founders of Jackson-Triggs winery, passed away recently as tributes continue to pour in across Niagara and the wine industry.
Jackson was Chair of Brock University's Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute Advisory Council from 2011 to 2023, and helped the school build outreach training opportunities over those years.
CCOVI Director and CCOVI Researcher Debbie Inglis says he was a very intelligent man, who decided to use that to improve Canada's wine industry.
Jackson began his journey in the wine industry in 1989 when he and business partner Donald Triggs purchased Ridout Wines, the wine division of Labatt Brewing. They later rebranded it as Vincor International, which would eventually evolve into Arterra Wines.
In 1993, the pair launched Jackson-Triggs, a winery that has since become a cornerstone of Niagara’s wine region and one of Canada’s most recognized labels.
Inglis says his lasting legacy will be one of prosperity for Canadian wine.
Jackson was 74 years old.
