What's Good In Niagara? Alzheimer Society Niagara gets $99,900 grant for caregiver support

Families in Niagara dealing with dementia are getting more support as a loved one moves into long-term care.

The Alzheimer Society Niagara Region has received a $99,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for a new 12-month support program.

The funding has allowed the organization to bring in a specialized counsellor who provides several supports to help navigating the transition.

Teena Kindt, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region, explains what the grant will help with.

The program also helps families deal with grief and changing caregiving roles, while finding meaningful ways to stay connected with their loved one.

The services are free and can be provided in the community, in long-term care, at home or virtually.

The Alzheimer Society says the program addresses a gap in support identified by the Niagara Ontario Health Team.
