If you’re looking for a little fall fun this weekend, there’s a Niagara tradition that’s been going strong for 75 years.
The Grape and Wine Grande Parade takes over downtown St. Catharines Saturday, with marching bands, colourful floats, dancers and more than 1,500 performers making their way along James, Church, Ontario and St. Paul Streets.
Executive director and event manager of the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival Matt Finn encourages everyone to attend.
Then on Sunday, the fun continues at Montebello Park with the Mayor’s Invitational Grape Stomp. Three teams will battle it out to see who can crush the most Niagara grapes the old-fashioned way, with their feet in a wine barrel.
Mayor Mat Siscoe will lead a team of Niagara first responders against the Next Gen Grape Growers and a third mystery team.
The parade and grape stomp are free to attend, and visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation or use the tap-to-donate option for Community Care.
