YMCA in Woodstock set to close

The Dundas Street facility in Woodstock will lock its doors at the end of September.

For the second time in two years, YMCA Southwestern Ontario is closing one of its branches.

The Dundas Street facility in Woodstock will lock its doors at the end of September citing falling membership and financial challenges including building maintenance costs.

In an interview with the Woodstock Sentinel-Review, YMCA leadership said the 64 year old fitness and recreation complex is the Y's oldest centre operating in the region.

A city council official in Woodstock tells the Sentinel-Review the childcare centre at the Dundas Street Y will remain open pending its move to a Child Care Centre that will be part of the new Turtle Island Public School under construction on Knights Lane on the north side of Pittock Lake.
