What's Good in Niagara? West 49 founder has given away 350k pairs of socks in Niagara....and counting

A Niagara-based charity has one goal in mind as we get closer to winter - a pair of warm socks on everyone's feet.

Socks for Change was started in 2017 by West 49 Founder Sam Baio, and has since donated over 350,000 pairs of socks to those in need throughout the Niagara Region.

Baio says he decided to start donating socks after hearing that it was the most needed item at local shelters.

Baio, who sold West 49 in 2010, said he was looking to help locally when he made the decision to start Socks for Change.

He says big businesses have a role to play in poverty, so they should have a role to play in helping solve it also.

Each pair of socks costs just $2 to make, with all donations to Socks for Change going towards those efforts.

Baio says donating is easy, and adds that a small donation goes a long way because of their low production costs.

Organizations in Niagara that are looking for socks to give away can contact Socks for Change through their website as well.
