St. Catharines Fire Services is investigating two overnight fires at vacant buildings in the downtown core.
Crews were first called around 7 p.m. Friday to 9 Queen St., where a fire in the attic and roof area was brought under control, though heavy equipment was needed to extinguish lingering hotspots.
About an hour after crews cleared that scene, firefighters responded to a second blaze next door at 17 Queen St., the former St. Catharines Standard building damaged by fire earlier this month.
Firefighters remained on scene Saturday morning managing hotspots, with nearby roads closed and the public urged to avoid the area.
No injuries were reported, and investigators are working to determine the cause.
