Niagara Regional Police say a suspect connected to a shooting Friday morning is now in custody.
Police report that 59-year-old Daniel Tronko has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire on officers who were responding to a bylaw-related call to keep the peace.
The incident sparked a nearly 24-hour standoff, prompting a shelter-in-place order for residents in the Plymouth Road area.
Tronko was ultimately arrested and taken to hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound sustained during the initial encounter with police. The officer who was shot was treated in hospital and later released with minor injuries.
