SIU finds no criminal wrongdoing in connection to Niagara motorcycle crash in September

Ontario's SIU says there are no reasonable grounds to believe an OPP officer committed a crime in connection with serious injuries suffered by a 50-year-old motorcyclist in Niagara.

The incident occurred on September 5th last year, when an officer attempted a U-turn on Highway 58A in a marked Dodge Charger while trying to locate a pedestrian reportedly walking in traffic.

During the turn, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the side of the cruiser, and the rider was taken to hospital with fractures to his ribs, spine, and pelvis.

While Director Martino concluded the officer did not exercise sufficient care, he determined the conduct did not cross the threshold required to constitute a criminal offence.
