Ontario rolls out new labour and free-trade regulations to start 2026

Ontario is rolling out new labour mobility and free-trade regulations aimed at breaking down interprovincial barriers and strengthening the economy.

As of yesterday, certified professionals such as engineers, electricians and architects from other provinces will be allowed to begin working in Ontario within 10 business days under new “as of right” rules.

The province is also expanding faster credential recognition for health-care workers, including physicians and nurses, to help address workforce shortages.

The government says the changes will help employers fill critical jobs sooner and make Ontario more competitive amid economic uncertainty.
