Niagara Falls is returning the favour to its neighbours in Buffalo.
The Falls will be illuminated in red, white and blue tomorrow night, October 3, with fireworks in the same colours as a thank-you to the Buffalo Bills, Visit Buffalo and the community for welcoming Canadians.
The tribute follows the performance of “O Canada” at the Bills’ September 17 home opener at the new Highmark Stadium. Visit Buffalo also put up billboards across Southern Ontario reading, “O Canada, We’re Still Singing It, Love Buffalo.”
Niagara Falls Tourism is returning the gesture with a full-page open letter in tomorrow’s Buffalo News, inviting Buffalo residents to cross the border and join Saturday’s celebration.
Niagara Falls Tourism Interim President and CEO Adam Stiles says Buffalo’s welcome meant a great deal to Canadians, and Saturday’s event is a way to return that warmth.
The celebration comes amid ongoing trade tensions between Canada and the United States, but Niagara Falls Tourism says the event is meant to highlight the longstanding friendships and connections between the two communities.
Visitors are invited to gather along the Niagara River overlooking the Horseshoe Falls for the illumination and fireworks, ahead of the Bills’ game against the New England Patriots Sunday in Buffalo.
