IceDogs defeat Steelheads on home ice

The IceDogs road a pair from Ryan Roobroeck in a 6-3 win over visiting Brampton.

An early big save from Vladislav Yermolenko kept the game scoreless before Roobroeck's first, on the power play, gave the home side the lead just past the mid-way mark of period one. About 3 minutes later, Cole Cooksey's breakaway back hand made it 2-0, in a first where each team counted 7 shots.

An early short handed Brampton goal, was offset by 3 unanswered from Krys Barch's team. Roobroeck's 2nd of the game and 7th of the season was followed by Reyth Smith's 1st in IceDogs colors. A third goal in less than 3 minutes, this time Braidy Wassilyn's 2nd of the season, made it 5-1 IceDogs after forty. The shot clock read 11-3 Niagara.

A pair of man advantage markers cut the margin to 5-3, before Kevin He found the empty Steelheads net in the final minute to close out the scoring. The IceDogs re-take first place in the Central, while out-shooting Brampton 26-25.

Next up, Country Night, with a visit from Kingston on tap Saturday night. The special game time of 6pm will be preceded by the pre-game show on the home of the IceDogs, New Country 89.1, at 5:45.
