What’s Good in Niagara? Student athlete mental health always a focus at Niagara College

School hosting numerous wellness workshops during Mental Health Week

May is Mental Health Month, and this week is Mental Health Week. As part of that, we will be putting a spotlight on the importance of mental health throughout the Niagara Region - starting with collegiate student athletes.

When it comes to student athletes, balancing between athletics and academics can be overwhelming for many.

Jay Burdon, Director or Health, Wellness & Accessibility Services at Niagara College says often times this can be because of the point of their life that they're in.

Burdon adds that athletes can often find themselves under immense pressure, whether it be from teammates, coaches, family, or even themselves.

Niagara College, like most post-secondary institutions, makes a point to give access to students to seek mental health help and advice- whether they're athletes or not.

This week, as part of Mental Health Week, the school is hosting several free wellness workshops for students to take part in.
