What's Good in Niagara? Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre opens court support centre for kids

Testifying in court can be a difficult and overwhelming experience for children, as many young victims or witnesses, the courtroom is a strange and intimidating place.

To help ease that experience and guide families through the justice system, the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre launched its Child Victim Witness Program in 2024.

The agency celebrated the opening of its new satellite court support centre Wednesday in downtown St. Catharines, near the Church Street courthouse.

Brian Bratt, Executive Director of the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre, says that the process can be overwhelming, and that's why they are there.

The program’s goal is to make sure young victims and witnesses feel informed, prepared, and supported throughout every stage of the judicial process.

Bratt explains just how much of a difference it has made.

Created with comfort and security in mind, the child-friendly space helps young victims and witnesses feel relaxed and supported while being interviewed or testifying.
