What's Good in Niagara? 25 years of Start Me Up Niagara to celebrate

For a quarter-century now, Start Me Up Niagara has been helping the region's most vulnerable when they need it most.

The organization is set to host its 25th anniversary this weekend, reflecting on the last two-plus decades of service to the community.

Donor Engagement Coordinator Emily Fieguth says while they have some large events, the day-to-day work is just as important.

In the beginning, Start Me Up Niagara was a three-year pilot project in four cities across Ontario, but was later expanded and is still serving the region to this day.

Fieguth says the organization's resiliency is a reflection of the people it serves.

During the winter, Start Me Up is contracted by the Niagara Region to operate a seasonal emergency overnight shelter.

As the next 25 years of Start Me Up's history start, a new Executive Director has stepped into the role, as Kelly-Ann Salerno started this week.

"It is an incredible honour to step into this role at such a meaningful time in Start Me Up Niagara’s journey. In just a few days, I’ve witnessed the heart, the resilience, and the unwavering compassion that defines this organization. As we celebrate 25 years of impact, we’re not just looking back — we’re building forward, together. I’m deeply humbled to lead Start Me Up Niagara into its next chapter of hope, connection, and possibility."

To mark the milestone, the organization will host a Mystery & Mimosa Jubilee Brunch Fundraiser this Saturday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club.
