
A 25-year-old man is facing charges as part of sexual assault investigation
Niagara Police say a 25-year-old man has been charged after a child under the age of five was sexually assaulted during a home invasion in Welland.
Officers responded to a medical assistance call Sunday morning at a home near Crowland Avenue and York Street, where they found a child with serious injuries. Paramedics transported the child to an out-of-region hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Police say an investigation revealed someone had broken into the residence overnight without the parents’ knowledge and assaulted the child. Surveillance footage from the area helped investigators identify a suspect.
Daniel Senecal of Welland was arrested and remains in custody. He faces charges including aggravated sexual assault on a person under 16, assault, assault by choking, break and enter, and sexual interference.
