West Lincoln Council has voted unanimously to support a new Niagara wide Code of Conduct aimed at preventing human trafficking.
The initiative, led by TOES Niagara and Brock University follows a call from Niagara Regional Council for municipalities to take action.
Officials say Niagara’s location and tourism industry make it a hotspot for exploitation, with certain vulnerable groups at higher risk.
Police data shows significant increases from 2023 to 2024 in trafficking cases, victims identified, and charges laid.
The project, funded by Women and Gender Equity Canada, will involve community input through focus groups and surveys.
