Welland minor hockey volunteer recognized by OMHA

Gene Patterson has served three generations of Welland Tigers hockey

Gene Patterson has been awarded the 2025 Honour Award by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, recognizing nearly 60 years of tireless volunteerism with the Welland Minor Hockey Association.

Serving three generations of Welland Tigers, Patterson has played a vital role in both administration and player development, and continues to operate the skate shop at the Welland Arena. 

A member of the Welland Sports Hall of Fame, Patterson has also received accolades from Hockey Canada and WMHA, including the Alive Reeves/Babe Kodasky Award—twice—and Life Member designation.

He also served on the Little NHL Committee and is the long-time statistician for the Ernie Clayton Hockey Tournament.

Patterson’s legacy is one of exceptional service, leadership, and devotion to the sport and his community.
