The City of Welland is speaking out following the recent sexual assault of a toddler during a break-in.

In a statement to residents, Mayor Frank Campion offered sorrow and support for the child and family impacted.

He stressed that the privacy, safety, and healing of the family remain the top priority, while assuring them of the community’s unwavering support.

Campion also thanked Welland Fire and Emergency Services, Niagara Regional Police, and other first responders for their quick actions.

He says they will continue to work closely with law enforcement and push for stronger action at the provincial and federal levels to ensure those responsible for such crimes are held fully accountable.

Campion added that this act of violence has shaken Welland to its core, but that the community must remain united in protecting children and supporting one another.
