Replica firearm seized in Welland arrest

Officers arrived after verbal dispute escalated

Niagara Regional Police arrested a 21-year-old Welland man after responding to reports of an armed individual at an Ontario Road apartment.

On Tuesday, May 20, officers arrived around noon following reports of a verbal dispute that escalated when the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm.

The scene was secured and the Emergency Task Unit, along with crisis negotiators, were brought in.

By 1 p.m., the suspect surrendered peacefully. The weapon was later identified as a replica firearm.

Alexander Lampman has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.
