The Ontario government is putting $5 million toward fighting invasive phragmites, including projects in Niagara.
The funding will support 119 projects across the province and help protect wetlands, shorelines and other natural areas.
Niagara College will use the funding to manage phragmites at its Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses.
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority will map and manage the invasive plant across the watershed, while the Town of Pelham will treat stormwater ponds to help stop its spread.
The province says the investment will also support nearly 200 local jobs.
