Two Niagara Falls men are wanted for second-degree murder following an assault that left a 37-year-old man dead.
Niagara Regional Police Service says officers from 2 District responded to a business on Lundy’s Lane near Hanan Avenue in Niagara Falls just before 6:30pm Thursday, September 17, for a reported assault.
Investigators located a male victim without vital signs at the scene. Niagara Emergency Medical Services performed life-saving efforts before the man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation was initially handled by the 2 District Criminal Investigations Branch. Police determined the victim had been assaulted by two suspects, who fled the area following the incident.
The suspects were identified, and a search began with assistance from the NRPS Canine Unit.
On Monday, September 21, police say the victim succumbed to his injuries. The investigation was subsequently taken over by the NRPS Homicide Unit.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew McAra. Police are now seeking two Niagara Falls men in connection with the death.
31-year-old Brandon Fitzgerald and 46-year-old Alexander Piccirillo are wanted for second-degree murder.
Police say the incident is believed to have been targeted.
Detectives are asking residents and businesses in the area of Lundy’s Lane and Hanan Avenue to review any available video surveillance footage from the time of the incident.
