Police reminding you to stay safe at the beach, regardless of age

A weekend trip to the sand shores is a dream come true in the summer.

That being said, the OPP, their marine unit, and the coast guard have already had a busy start to the summer.

Constable Andrew Gamble says families flock down to the beach, and swimming levels can vary.

Another common call they have been getting includes people relaxing out on a floatie - until that fun in the sun turns scary.

If you are not a good swimmer, and you are going to the beach, Gamble says your safety must be top of mind.

An easy way to ensure that is by wearing a life jacket.

He adds those life jackets don't do much good if they are on the shoreline, on the boat, or beside you on a floating device.

Gamble is hopeful that people will keep safety a priority as the summer heat continues to shine down.
