Police arrest St. Catharines man for sexual assault involving youth

Niagara Regional Police have arrested a St. Catharines man following an investigation into a sexual assault involving a youth.

Police were called to a Niagara Falls address on Wednesday, June 11, for a belated sexual assault report.

The initial investigation determined that a female youth had been approached by an adult male while walking in the area of Geneva Street and North Service Road in St. Catharines.

Given the nature of the allegations, the case was assigned to the NRPS Child Abuse Unit.

On Tuesday, August 19, detectives arrested 27-year-old Achraf Ghalil of St. Catharines.

He has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under 16, invitation to sexual touching under 16, and luring a child to commit sexual assault.
