With students now back in class, Niagara Region is reminding residents about several new measures introduced this year to improve road safety.
Approved in the spring, the updates to the Regional road network include clear criteria for lowering speed limits in school zones, consistent speed limits that remain in effect at all times of day, enhanced signage, and additional traffic calming features.
The Region has also rolled out automated speed enforcement at eight new locations, active from early September through December 2025. The list of locations are as follows:
Grimsby - Livingston Avenue between Roberts Road and Patton Street
Lincoln - Victoria Avenue between Frederick Avenue and King Street
Niagara Falls - Thorold Stone Road between Stanley Avenue and Rolling Acres Drive
St. Catharines - Glendale Avenue between Pelham Road and Caroline Street
St. Catharines - Niagara Street between Carlton Street and Scott Street
St. Catharines - Pelham Road between Glendale Avenue and First Street Louth
Welland - Rice Road between Quaker Road and Woodlawn Road
West Lincoln - Townline Road between Harvest Gate and Canborough Street
Other safety initiatives include installing leading pedestrian intervals at traffic signals and adding pedestrian crossovers to help make walking safer in busy areas.
