Niagara Falls continuing crackdown on illegal short-term rentals

The City of Niagara Falls is continuing its crackdown on illegal vacation rental units, with more than $121,000 in fines issued over the past month.

Municipal Enforcement Services received 30 new complaints between June 22 and July 29 about properties suspected of operating without the required licence.

The City says five properties have since come into compliance, while investigations continue at other locations.

Officials say they are taking an education-first approach, working with property owners to explain the rules, but enforcement action will follow when violations continue.
