Workers at Niagara Region’s municipally run long-term care homes are celebrating after ratifying a new collective agreement.
The deal, reached between the Region and CUPE 1263 through direct negotiations, avoids the need for interest arbitration seen in previous years.
The agreement includes a 10.5 per cent wage increase over its term, along with improved paramedical benefits, vacation time and other key provisions.
Union officials say the changes are aimed at improving staff retention, reducing burnout and strengthening supports for workers in the sector.
CUPE 1263 represents more than 2,000 members, including roughly 950 long-term care workers across seven municipal facilities in Niagara.
