Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour residential school survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities, while remembering the children who never returned home.
Across Niagara, there are several events planned. Welland and Niagara Falls will hold Every Child Matters flag-raising ceremonies at 10 this morning, at Civic Square and Niagara Falls City Hall respectively.
Welland will also host Indigenous-focused film screenings at the Welland Museum, while the Public Library will hold a reflection and learning event this afternoon.
The Niagara Region is also marking the day by lowering flags to half-mast and lighting its sign orange.
