$1.7-billion plant will serve other companies, according to Asahi Kasei statement
The impact of Honda delaying its electric vehicle plant in Ontario isn't expected to have much of an impact on a battery separator plant in Port Colborne.
Asahi Kasei's $1.7-billion plant in Port Colborne is still on track to begin operations in 2027, despite Honda announcing a two-year postponement of its EV plant in Ontario this week.
The Japan-based company says because sales to companies other than Honda are also in its future, the impact of Honda's announcement is expected to be minimal.
The plant in Port Colborne broke ground last November, after being announced by the Federal government last Spring. Once operational, the Port plant is expected to create over 300 jobs in Niagara.
