Over $2 million in losses reported
Police have laid new charges in a multi-jurisdictional bank robbery case dubbed Project Opal.
The investigation involves a series of eight armed robberies across Ontario, including Niagara Falls, between December 2022 and March 2024, resulting in over $2 million in losses. Four suspects were arrested last year as a result.
On June 27, 2025, the OPP charged 33-year-old Roderick Newman of Cobourg in connection with robberies in Barrie and Newmarket.
A fifth suspect, Akeem Williams of Ajax, remains at large.
