What's Good in Niagara? River Lions found new motivation to win second championship

For the second straight year the Niagara River Lions can make the claim of being the kings of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

Last weekend, Niagara won their second consecutive CEBL Championship, defeating the Calgary Surge and bringing the trophy back to the region.

Head Coach and General Manager Vic Raso says it wasn't easy though, as they had to find a new reason to be motivated this season.

The River Lions won both of their championships on the road - last year in Montreal and this year in Winnipeg. Raso says this league's poopularity from coast to coast continues to grow.

With this year's championship, Niagara is now just one of two teams to win the trophy twice - and will look to become the first three-time champion with a three-peat in 2026.
