Proudly Canadian, Proudly Local: Castle Niagara Building Centre

After a professional hockey career that spanned North America and Europe, Kevin Bolibruck has found his calling in a different arena - building materials. The former Peterborough Pete defenceman and hockey veteran now owns Castle Niagara Building Centre on Highway 20, where he’s bringing his competitive spirit and community values to the world of construction and small business.

“When we opened the store three years ago, it felt like I was coming back home,” said Bolibruck, who spent part of his youth in Niagara. “I’ve traveled the world, but Niagara always felt like where I was meant to be.”

Castle Niagara is more than just a building supply store - it’s a symbol of local entrepreneurship. Roughly 85% of the store’s products are sourced from Canadian manufacturers, helping customers avoid the rising costs associated with international tariffs. “There’s no shortage of Canadian lumber,” Bolibruck noted. “People want quality, affordability, and to support local - and we can deliver that.”

The business is also deeply embedded in the community. From supporting local sports to hosting the DSBN Skills Competition for trades students, Bolibruck is passionate about giving back. “There’s a huge need for trades, and we want kids to see those opportunities,” he said. “Whether it’s sports or skilled trades, it’s about helping them build something for themselves.”

While his days on the ice may be behind him, Bolibruck is still building—this time with hammers and nails instead of sticks and pucks. “We were just guys with a dream,” he said. “Now, when customers walk through the door and feel like it’s their store, that’s what makes it all worth it.”
